Repentence?
19 May 2009 in TopicsRepenting of something means to turn away from it, to go the opposite direction. While we are saved through faith in Jesus Christ and His death on the cross, we still need to repent (turn) from our sins. Acts 2:38 says, “Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost” (KJV). If someone went out and killed someone else and then came and asked for forgiveness and a little later did the same thing again, are they really sorry for the bad things that they did? No. Do they really care about being forgiven for what they did? No. They just want to do whatever they want to do and not get punished for it. God has called us all to repent of all the bad things we did and do and to turn to Him for forgiveness. 2 Corinthians 7:10 says, “For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death” (KJV). Many people are sorry for bad things they did when they get punished for them, but if they were not to be punished for them then they would not care what they did. God wants us to be sorry for the bad things we did and do. If we are truly sorry for the bad things we did and do then it shows that we do care and we agree with God that what we did and do is wrong.
