If your a ‘good person’ won’t you go to Heaven?
19 May 2009 in TopicsMany people today think that if you are a ‘good person’ you will go to Heaven, but most people don’t know what God has said. God said in Isaiah 64:6 that “we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.” No matter what good things we may do, we have all done bad things in our lives, sins. While it is good to do good things, the good things do not negate the bad things that we have done. Say you we speeding down the freeway and got pulled over by a cop. He says you were going 94 mph and he writes you a ticket. Though you may drive the speed limit the rest of your life and never speed again, you still have to pay the ticket and that ticket is on your record.(1) God is loving but He is also holy and just, He must punish the sins we have committed. The penalty for our sins is eternal separation from God in Hell, but He doesn’t want that. That why Jesus Christ came to earth 2000 years ago to live a perfect live, never sinning once. Then He suffered and died upon a cross and rose to live again three days later so we can be forgiven of our sins. Hebrews 9:22 says, “And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.” Blood needs to be shed for us to be forgiven of our sins but we cannot shed our own blood because our blood is defiled by sin. Only Jesus’ blood can cleanse us of our sins because He never sinned once. That’s why He said in John 14:6 “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” Its only through Jesus Christ’s death and resurrection that we can be saved.
